Biography
Shortly before midnight on August 21, 1975, the Glendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps Unit Glendale 1 was returning from an emergency call when they received another assignment. The call was for a reported patient bleeding profusely. While responding, the ambulance was struck on the right side. Frank was thrown from the ambulance and struck his head on the curb. The ambulance ultimately struck a storefront and exploded, destroying the store and damaging apartments above. Mr. Libraro was transported to Wyckoff Heights Hospital where he died several days later.<br /> <br /> Frank had been a member of Glendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps for about two years and had recently completed CPR and Emergency Medical Technician training. Frank was only 22 years old at the time of his death. New York State honored him in 2007 by placing his name on the Empire State Plaza memorial. At the memorial his brother stated, "The work that an EMS worker does many times is the difference between life and death. We are blessed because of this EMS worker's life."<br /> <br /> Honored 2011
