Biography
Paramedic Timothy Kyle Southern, known as "Bubby" to all, started his life of service to his community and fellow man as a very young man. He was a Boy Scout in Waynesboro Troop #73 where he rose to the rank of Eagle Scout and was accepted into the prestigious honor society of the Boy Scouts, the "Order of the Arrow" which establishes lifelong guidelines of service to fellow scouts and their communities.

Kyle took those guidelines to heart, joining the Waynesboro First Aid Crew as a junior member and helping the crew's junior competition team take first place in the Virginia State EMS competition. He was a Freemason with Lodge #209 and obtained the third degree and became a "Master Mason", one of Freemasonry's highest degrees. Kyle was also a Shriner with the ACCA Shrine in Richmond. Both organizations follow the same belief and guidelines of service to community and one's fellowman that he learned in "OA".

At the first aid crew, Timothy was known as a fun loving prankster who would put a smile on anyone's face. He was always laughing, was full of humor, never had a bad word to say about anybody, and befriended everyone he met. Kyle was also good with his patients. "They could be the sickest person he'd ever seen and he'd do something to just put a smile on their face."

Kyle loved hunting, fishing and swimming. He also enjoyed playing video games with his friends, and hangin' out with "The Wolf Pack." Kyle worked at the Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro and more recently with his first "paid" EMS job, Priority Patient Transport where he was known as an excellent employee.

On January 6, 2012, Kyle was driving an ambulance with a patient being transported to a nursing facility. While traveling through Buckingham County his ambulance crossed the centerline of the roadway and collided, head on, with a cement truck. Kyle, age 21, and his patient were both fatally injured in the accident.

Honored 2013
