| The Greek poet, Homer, once wrote "life and death are balanced on the edge of a razor." Their mission to provide medical care to those with the greatest need was simple, but always with risks. "All of Texas mourns the loss of these special people; they will be missed," stated The Honorable Ken Bentsen of Texas during a memorial for the crew held at Rice University.<br /> <br /> Charles R. "Mac" Atteberry, 30, was killed in the line of duty on July 17, 1999. He was the paramedic and part of a three-person medical team involved in a patient transport when the helicopter crashed into rural Fort Benty County, about 60 miles south of Houston.<br /> <br /> Atteberry had been with Life Flight for seven years; prior to that he was a paramedic with Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Service and a volunteer firefighter.<br /> <br /> Charles was a dedicated and caring individual who made the ultimate sacrifice," stated Memorial Hermann President and CEO Dan Wilford.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009 |
