Biography
Herb McCay died on November 6, 1997, doing the job he loved when the ambulance he was driving crashed in Philadelphia. He was driving an ambulance for American Medical Response when it struck a utility pole after colliding with a car. There were no patients in the ambulance McCay had been an emergency medical technician for more than five years and had recently completed course work to become a paramedic. Becoming a paramedic was Herb's lifelong dream. He was scheduled to take the certification test in two weeks. He was certified posthumously as a paramedic - realizing his dream.<br /> <br /> In addition to working for American Medical Response, he was a volunteer with Wissinoming Ambulance in Philadelphia.<br /> <br /> Herb, 31, is survived by his wife of six months, Jacqueline, and a 7-year-old son, Herbert, Jr.<br /> <br /> Honored 1998
