Biography
Jimmie Rogers was a charter member of the Appomattox Squad and worked with them for twenty-nine years. During that time he served in every capacity, including captain from 1973 through 1979 and treasurer of the annual fund drive from 1981 to 1990. In 1980, he was presented with Merit and Life Membership Awards in honor of his dedication and service to others and the squad.

Additionally, Jimmie was a certified emergency medical technician, an EVOC instructor, served as Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads' Board of Governors representative and Blue Ridge Volunteer Medical Emergency Services representative. Any van loaned to the squad was equipped with the necessary cabinets by Jimmie until a fully equipped vehicle could be purchased.

Jimmie and his wife, Peggy, were the parents of one son, James Carlyle Rogers, Jr. When not volunteering with the Appomattox Squad, he worked as an engineering technician and served as a deacon of the Red Oak Baptist Church.

His unexpected loss on November 7, 1990, at the age of 54 was the result of a massive coronary after responding to a rescue call.

Jimmie often remarked, "There's not a lot of things I can do, but I get a satisfaction out of knowing I'm out there helping somebody."

Honored 1993
