Biography
Flight Nurse, Carlos De La Fuente, Sr. had a type of magnetism that drew students who were eager to learn the tools of the trade. "He was an excellent nurse," said Bill Elliot, spokesman for the Valley Baptist Medical Center where De La Fuente worked.<br /> <br /> An air ambulance crash en route to an accident took the life of 34-year-old Carlos De La Fuente of San Benito, Texas on June 5, 1998. He was a flight nurse at Valley AirCare and an eight- year paramedic at Harlingen Community Emergency Medical Services and worked in the emergency room at Valley Baptist Medical Center. De La Fuente's friends state that he was not only a devoted man to his jobs, but also to his family. "When he was not on the job, he could be found at home; he was a real home body," they said.<br /> <br /> He was a graduate of San Benito High School and the University of Texas at Brownsville. He was the son of Cameron County Justice of the Peace, Oscar De La Fuente, and Anna De La Fuente of San Benito.<br /> <br /> He is survived by his wife, Lisa, and son, Carlos De La Fuente, Jr.<br /> <br /> Honored 1999
