Biography
But no - it was very true - There was just nothing that anyone could do. Helping others - that was his call - He gave his life - He gave his all!

It has been said that for those of us that work in this field, we have a special bond that few understand. It is a bond that brings us together like a family away from our families. It is a bond that allows us to express the best and the worst in ourselves, and still allows us to work side-by-side for the benefit of those who summon our help. Terry was a part of this family, and as with the loss of any member of a family, it tears at the heart... Jerry W. Jacobs.

Terry Shoens was a paramedic employed by Everglades Regional EMS and had been there since 1997. When he wasn't working with Everglades he worked as a police dispatcher with Pahokee Police Department and volunteered as a firefighter with Pahokee Fire Department. Before his employment with Everglades, he was employed with AMR/Lifefleet and had volunteered as a firefighter with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue, earning "Volunteer Firefighter of the Year" at one time. One of his final aspirations was to become a police officer, which he was preparing himself to become.

Paramedic Terry Shoens was killed in a motor vehicle accident while on duty. His rescue unit struck the back of a dump truck that was stalled in the center of the road. He is survived by his parents, Kay and Dan Shoens of Michigan, and 2 sons, Kyle and Tyler

Honored 1999
