Biography
"They certainly had advanced training, and were highly competent," David Bevins, hospital administrator said.Ernest Jones, 49, of Oakwood Village, Ohio was killed on June 14, 1999 when the helicopter he was flying crashed in dense fog on a rugged hillside in Breathitt County. He, and three associates were headed home after a quiet day of work in Jackson, Kentucky. There were no survivors.Jones was a pilot for Petroleum Helicopters, Incorporated since 1984. He served in the U. S. Army as a helicopter pilot. He earned the rank of captain with overseas service in Vietnam and served as a rotary wing section commander for the Iowa National Guard. Jones attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautics."He was a caring individual who touched thousand of lives," said Colleen Swartz, director of emergency transport for UK. "There didn't seem to be a day that went by that they weren't actually happy and really liked what they were doing and felt good about the service and about the care they were providing to people," stated Jan Davis, medical crew supervisor.Ernest L. Jones Jr. is survived by his wife, Dosette, two children, Angela and Michael.Honored 2000
