Biography
"He was such a good person," states EMT Sue Henricks, "friendly...helpful... always took leadership...he had so much expertise and knowledge."

Steno Schipper , EMT, and a member of the Allison/Bristow Ambulance Service was killed on January 22, 1992, when his truck slipped off an icy road on Highway 3 in Allison, Iowa. He was responding to another accident caused by the icy road when the wreck occurred. "The way he was, meant total dedication to the well being of his community. He was a great asset to the city," stated Allison Mayor Jack Cooper. Sheriff Timothy Junker said, "He's really going to be missed, it's just the way he was."

Schipper's dedication is abundantly shown by his list of involvements; he was one of the first to take advantage of Iowa's EMT training classes, a member and chairman of the board of the Allison Rescue Squad serving 25 years, and as a volunteer firefighter for many years. He served on City Council and was mayor pro-tem of Allison, a member of the American Legion and the AmVets, as well as an active member of his church. He also served on EMS Regional Councils and was the coordinator of EMS for Butler County. Steno's wife, Amelia, was responding to the same accident call by ambulance, and was the first on the scene of her husbands' accident.

Steno J. Schipper, 66, is survived by his wife, Amelia, a son, Darwin, a daughter, Judy Kellogg, and five grandchildren.

Honored 2000
