Biography
People who knew him knew they could always count on Richard to think of others before himself. As he responded to a highway accident, icy road conditions caused Richard's car to spin out of control and cross a cement median strip. An on-coming vehicle hit his car. He was transported to a local hospital, but died shortly after the accident on January 10, 1993 at the age of 41.

Moments before losing control of his car, he had used his police radio to warn fellow emergency medical personnel about the icy road conditions Richard's devotion to helping others was evident in his many affiliations: the Derry Township Fire Police, the Pennsylvania Fire Police Association, the Mifflin County Fire Police, Junction Fire Company, Yeagertown Fire Company, Burnham Fire Company and East Derry Fire Company. He was the top responder in Derry Township. He worked 138 calls of the 228 received in the year prior to his death.

Previously employed by Beaver Bakery as a production worker, he had retired on disability. Additionally, he was a member of American Legion Post 90.

Honored 1994
