Sandy Shepherd will be missed greatly," commented co-worker Tricia Puckett.Sandy Shepherd, 26, lost her life on May 15, 2001 while attending a patient in the back of an ambulance. The emergency crew was performing a routine patient transport when the ambulance was struck head-on by an out of control vehicle driven by a drunk driver. The wreck occurred on Mountain Parkway in Morgan County, Kentucky. Suffering from blunt trauma, Ms. Shepherd was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she died later that day from her injuries. A young life snuffed out carelessly by another who made a bad decision to drink, then to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and try to drive. The patient and the driver of the other vehicle were also killed in the accident. The driver of the ambulance was the fiance of the slain Sandy Shepherd. He was also seriously injured.Ms. Shepherd was employed by G & B Ambulance Service, Inc. of Salyersville, Kentucky as an Emergency Medical Technican since 1995.Honored 2002
