Biography
Eddie and Doris Jones often worked together to provide emergency medical service to the residents of Harrells, North Carolina, and the surrounding service area. People often called the Jones' home to ask "Mr. Eddie" for help.

On March 3, 1992, Eddie and Doris answered a non-emergency call to a local nursing home. Before they could transport the patient to the morgue, Eddie and three attendants had to carry the patient through a sandy area to the rescue vehicle. Upon arrival at the morgue, Eddie moved the squad truck. When Doris, an emergency medical technician and the other attendants returned to the squad truck they found Eddie unresponsive. Emergency room staff worked diligently to save Eddie's life, but he had suffered a severe asthma attack which caused heart failure.

He had been a member of the Harrells Rescue Squad since its founding in 1973 and served as co-captain. In 1977, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991 Eddie was awarded the Rescue Member of the Year Award. Eddie joined the Harrells Volunteer Fire Department when it was founded in 1957 and left his business, Eddie's Exxon, many times to respond to calls for help. He attended Siloam Baptist Church all his life.

He never turned down anyone in need -- a good man who put others before himself.

Honored 1994
