Biography
"It didn't surprise anybody who knew him," said Peggy Farrell, Zhe's supervisor. "He was a completely selfless person - he was just someone who would automatically volunteer his assistance. To me, it was a truly heroic display." Running towards the smoke and ash, he knew there were many that needed his skills."Zhe "Zack" Zeng, 28, lost his life on September 11, 2001 while treating the wounded in the World Trade Center. The morning of September 11, after the first plane had struck the South Tower, the occupants of Zack's office building were ordered to evacuate. When Zack saw what was going on, his natural instinct as an Emergency Medical Technician took over. Running back into the building, he gathered all the first aid kits and medical supplies he could find. Zack then selflessly rushed to the aid of the terrorists' victims at the base of the tower, and in doing so became a victim himself.Mr. Zeng was a member of Brighton Volunteer Ambulance. He became New York State certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Defibrillation in 1995, and volunteered as a Medic while attending college. In October 2001, Brighton Volunteer Ambulance dedicated its new Ambulance 3059, in memory of Zack and all rescuers who died on September 11, 2001. In January 2002, Brighton Town Supervisor, Sandra Frankel, and New York State Governor, George E. Pataki, cited Zhe "Zack" Zeng's heroic actions in their State. Zack was issued a New York State Memorial EMT number of 911295.Honored 2004
