Biography
"He's my hero; he died on friendly soil attempting to save people's lives. Being a paramedic and firefighter is all he ever wanted to do," said the mother about her son. "He was a public servant, a good son, and a loving father; he loved to laugh and make other laugh, too. He was next to be called up for this war; however, he became a hero right here."<br /> <br /> Tommy Allen Allred, 26, of Vinemont, Alabama, was killed in the line of duty on August 18, 2005. The young rescue worker died of injuries received when the ambulance he was driving collided with a train at a rural railroad crossing in Morgan County, Alabama.<br /> <br /> Mr. Allred was employed by American Ambulance Service of Cullman, Alabama. He was a volunteer firefighter with Falkville Fire Department. Tommy also served in the United States Naval Reserves. At the time of his death, he was taking classes to become a certified paramedic. "Tommy loved the people he worked with; they are just one big family," stated American Ambulance Service owner. "He was an amazing young man, a very good person," stated Fire Chief Terry Lambert. "He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he met. He loved serving others, loved helping people, and that is the true meaning of sacrifice.
