Biography
Dave Barter was a volunteer emergency medical technician and firefighter for the West Terre Haute Fire Department. Additionally, he and his wife Janice, also an emergency medical technician, had worked for Aid Ambulance for 13 years.<br /> <br /> On Saturday night, June 18, 1994 Dave responded, while off duty, to a four-wheeler accident. Shortly after returning to the station, he collapsed of an apparent heart attack. He was 58 years old.<br /> <br /> Dave was a teacher by profession, having spent 31 years as a science and math teacher at the high school level. He retired from West Vigo High School in 1991, but continued teaching as a certified primary emergency medical instructor for Indiana Vocational Technical College and as a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor for the American Heart Association.<br /> <br /> As an active member of the West Terre Haute community, Dave was a member of the Vigo County Retired Teachers Association, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, a past Master of the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge, and a past worthy patron of Job's Daughters. He was active in sports and was a Terra Haute Girls Little League baseball coach.<br /> <br /> Dave and Janice were the parents of two daughters, Teresa and Britt, and two sons, David and James. He was happiest when the entire family was together.<br /> <br /> Honored 1995
