| On April 4 1999, Pilot James Bond Jr., 42, along with two flight nurses, Kathy Batterman and Leroy Shelton, died in the line of duty. Their helicopter smashed into a patch of land just off Old Ben Road near Indian Springs. Punishing weather that reduced visibility to less than 50 yards caused the crash.<br /> <br /> They had dropped off a patient at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas and were returning to base in Pahrump, Nevada, when the crash occurred.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009 |
