Biography
"Stephanie was easy to talk to and always looked on the bright side of things. She was a mentor for younger paramedics," stated EMS Director Glenn Luedtke. She was the type of person, no matter the situation, who would smile and respond with "it's all good," said fellow paramedic Joe Hopple. "We will always remember her."<br /> <br /> Stephanie L. Callaway, 31, was killed in the line of duty on June 17, 2008. She was riding in the back of an ambulance attending her patient when the ambulance swerved to miss a deer and struck a tree.<br /> <br /> Stephanie joined Sussex County as a paramedic in 2003. She was a field training officer and public information officer, as well as a top-notch paramedic. She attended the Delaware Technical and Community College paramedic program, receiving her associate's degree in Allied Health Services. At this time she was hired by Kent County Paramedics until coming to Sussex County Emergency Medical Services in 2003. Stephanie went on to earn her bachelor's degree in emergency medical services management from George Washington University.<br /> <br /> Paramedic Callaway was a loving mother and wife, and she will be sorely missed.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009
