Biography
In our moments of greatest peril, our lives depend on the courageous work of med flight personnel. Steve was dedicated to rescuing people who faced the longest odds, and we owe him a tremendous gratitude for his extraordinary service and dedication.<br /> <br /> Steve Lipperer, 39, died in the line of duty on May 10, 2008. He was the pilot of the medical helicopter that was involved in the transport of a patient. The three-man medical team was returning to Madison after dropping their patient off at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital.<br /> <br /> Steve was employed with University of Wisconsin Hospital for eight years and became a pilot in 2000. He was employed by Air Methods, the company that leased the aircraft to the hospital. "He was known for his flying skills and colleagues felt safe getting into an aircraft with him," the hospital's director of Emergency Medical Services stated. He was very thorough and very safety conscious.<br /> <br /> He worked hard, liked what he did and knew his job made a difference.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009
