Biography
Donna eased her patients' minds by singing children's songs to them during flights. She wore a Winnie-the-Pooh watch and was a certified critical care and emergency nurse who joined the AirCare crew in 1987.

On Friday, April 22, 1994, Donna was killed in the crash of an AirCare flight to Bluefield, WestVirginia to pick up a patient for transport to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The weather was rainy and extremely foggy, and the crew was flying by instruments. Just seven miles from the Mercer County Airport the helicopter crashed into East River Mountain. There had been no indication the crew was having difficulties. All four crew members were killed.

Donna had been active in teaching helicopter safety classes to emergency medical services and fire departments in the Winston-Salem area. She held additional certifications in pediatric advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support, trauma nurse core curriculum, and enjoyed providing medical support at NASCAR races.

Donna died at the age of 33, but will be remembered for the enthusiasm, love, and dedication she felt for her profession!

Honored 1995
