Biography
"Vania's death has had a large impact on our community, she was so loved. She was full of compassion and had unique qualities; we have lost a sister and a friend," stated Bargersville Community Battalion Chief Mike Morris.<br /> <br /> Vania Abella Shields, 33, was killed in the line of duty on September 25, 2008. She was en route to work her shift at Wayne Township Fire Department when the accident occurred. A FedEx semi with two trailers hit a wheel in the road, causing the driver to lose control. The semi veered across the median and crashed into three moving vehicles. "I am sure paramedic Shields responded to many accidents like this one in her career. Unfortunately she fell victim to this one," stated Captain Troy Wymer, Wayne Township Fire Department.<br /> <br /> Vania Shields was a paramedic who worked at both Wayne Township and Bargersville Community Fire Departments. She attended St. Francis Hospital Paramedic School, where she graduated at the top of her class.<br /> <br /> Vania was a beloved family member who will be sorely missed by them as well as her co-workers.<br /> <br /> Honored 2009
