Biography
Paul D. Holmes, 37, of Douglas, Georgia, died from injuries sustained in the line of duty on December 26, 2009. Holmes and another rescuer were in route to a vehicle fire with injuries when their own ambulance was involved in the accident. With sirens blaring and lights flashing on the ambulance, the driver directly in front did not heed the warnings. As the ambulance driver started to go around, the driver of the car turned directly into the rescue vehicle causing the ambulance to do a 3-rollover crash. Both rescue personnel were injured with Holmes being airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on December 28, 2009.<br /> <br /> As a resident of Dallas, Georgia, Paul was employed by Douglas County Fire Department as a firefighter paramedic. He had been with the department since May of 2008. The personnel in Douglas County, Georgia are cross-trained in both fire and rescue, enabling quicker respond time at any emergency. Paul was a paramedic and recently completed his goal of being a certified firefighter. He was married to his wife, Jamie, and also had a little daughter, Alexandra. She was born 10 weeks prematurely. He was a happy family man at the time of his death and had met his career goals, a fact that brings his family and friends much comfort.<br /> <br /> Honored 2010
