Biography
Lisa Hannon was born in Kenya and had lived all over the world with her Foreign Service family. During her sophomore year at the University of Virginia, Lisa returned to Kenya to teach English. After graduation from the University, she began working in McLean, Virginia.

Lisa was one of a small number of certified incident commanders for search and rescue in Virginia, and was an active volunteer emergency medical technician with the Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad. After joining Appalachian Search and Rescue in 1988, Lisa rose from field team member to field team leader to incident staff to incident commander, the highest rank. Believing education was of vital importance, Lisa taught courses in incident management.

On May 2, 1994 her day off Lisa responded to the search for a small boy in Hampshire County, West Virginia. She coordinated the search effort for twelve hours straight before heading home and back to work the next morning. Lisa was killed on the way home when her pickup truck hit a tree. Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference members are on duty from the time they respond from home until the time they notify their dispatcher they have arrived home safely. Lisa was 24 years old when she died on May 3.

Honored 1995
