Biography
Scherese was known throughout Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District for her smile and her uplifting personality. She always had a smile on her face, and everyone in her department loved working with her. Her desire to help the people of her community went well beyond her shifts as a part-time EMT. She could be called upon anytime of day or night to help people in the community, many times leaving from home to help people in need of assistance. Scherese was a doting mother to her daughter Sch'Erica and loved the time she spent with her. Her friends say the only two things she would talk about were her job and her daughter. She was playing with her daughter at the firehouse on March 3, 2011, when a call came in, but others handled it. Then a second alarm sounded at a local shopping center. It was then she left her little girl and responded. When Scherese and her partner arrived on the scene they found a male in cardiac arrest. They immediately started CPR. As she was administering care, she herself collapsed in cardiac arrest. Coworkers worked to revive Scherese and the man she responded to help. She was transported to a local hospital where she remained in critical condition until her death eight days later at the age of 37.
