Biography
Ben loved music! He held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore which he put to use at his church--High Ridge Baptist in Martinsville, Virginia. He was director of the Children's Choir and Men's Choir and was a member of the Senior Choir.

Ben was an active member of the Ridgeway District Volunteer Rescue Squad for nine years, and was on duty the night he became ill. When his chest pain began, Ben passed it off as a hernia acting up and, reluctantly, returned home for medication. The pain became worse, and he was taken to the hospital. After an overnight stay Ben's tests appeared normal but, without warning, his heart stopped. Ben had died of a heart attack at the age of 34 on January 23, 1993.

During his years as a volunteer with the Ridgeway Squad, he served as president, vice president, representative to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squad's Board of Governors, and squad sergeant. Ben had completed a paramedic course in North Carolina, but had yet to be certified in Virginia. However, he was a certified cardiac technician and qualified in Hazmat-1, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course and vehicle extrication.

Professionally, Ben was a supervisor and cardiac technician for Southwest Virginia Ambulance Service of Martinsville, Virginia.

Ben left behind a loving family: his wife Ramona, stepdaughter Ramonica, and his parents Ben and Jesse Mullins.

Honored 1995
