Biography
Buck Hook volunteered with the Lynchburg Life Saving Crew in 1945 and was an active member until his death twenty-seven years later. During that time, he devoted his efforts to the service of others.

Professionally, Buck was a salesman for the Sumter Casket Company, a licensed funeral director, and a past president of the Funeral Supply Salesmen Association. He was also an active member of the Elks Club.

Buck and Doris Hook were the parents of two daughters, Susan and Sandra.

The Lynchburg Crew responded to a highway accident on August 18, 1972. Buck and the crew worked to free the people from the car with rescue tools. After removing the people and giving them first aid, Buck started to have chest pain. His fellow crew members began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rushed him to the hospital.

Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain. Buck died at the age of 54 after working diligently to save the lives of others.

Honored 1996
